Appreciate What You Have and Realize Your “BETTER” Life

With everything that occurs in this world, it is easy to become so numb and affected by the bad news you hear almost daily and not appreciate what you have. It is easy to get down on yourself and others, being the “Negative Nellie” at work and feel that the entire world is against you, never able to catch any breaks. We’ve all been this person at one point in our lives, somehow finding ourselves falling into this gross and life-decaying attitude. We need to see the good that surrounds us, even in the darkest of times.  The way you perceive each event and situation that has come your way, will affect each preceding event or situation you come across. I’m not naive to think this is something you are hearing for the first time, I know this has been preached to you by many others, but I want you to approach this blog with an open mind and a trusting heart.

A year or so ago, I fell victim to the Negative Nellie way, and I really felt its wrath.   I was always complaining at work and always acting like the victim when life threw me a curve ball. It was draining my energy for life and worst of all I allowed this to carry over into my home life. I saw myself being irritated very easily, quick to be judge and jury, and not giving the attention to my wife and dog that they deserved. I saw a version of myself that I didn’t like, and I knew I had to change it fast. I really had to work within myself to change my mental outlook, and since then I can tell you life is a whole lot brighter. I no longer harp on the things I cant control, and I keep a look out for the little miracles that happen everyday that make me appreciate every day I’m alive.   Whether it’s a song that pops on the radio, or catching a green light to help me get to work on time, I am now aware of the little victories that so many of us miss because we have our “negative” blinders on.

If you feel like you are one of these people that are falling into this trap, don’t panic, just open your eyes. Life is too short and absolutely way too amazing to let such minor details dictate your life. Appreciate your life and your loved ones, appreciate your family and friends, appreciate the things you have and get to do every day.  When you begin to feel sorry for yourself or say nothing ever goes your way, I want you to think about all of those amazing things in your life, and think about the so many millions of people in the world who don’t have a fraction of what you have. That always helps me put my self-pity parties into perspective and start to appreciate what you have.
