Spotlight – Dr. Jessica Dine, Reaps the Benefits of Strength Training
Dr. Jessica Dine is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and Chief of the Section of Advanced Consultative Pulmonary. She first heard of Vertex Fitness after asking friends and colleagues for personal training recommendations. She was given the names of different facilities in the area but Vertex Fitness was not one of them. Noticing the recommendations given to her were more heavily focused on weight loss and not improving overall strength and health, she decided to do her own research. Being able to keep up with her three children was her motivation for starting a strength-training program. Dr. Dine quickly discovered Vertex Fitness, and knew immediately the mission was in line with what she was looking for. So she decided to come in for a complimentary session and was immediately hooked.
In the 8 months since Dr. Dine has been training, she has experienced many results including increased strength and confidence. She is able to keep up with her active children; running faster and feeling more energized. And she has seen positive changes in her overall physique!
Like most people, Dr. Dine had never worked with a professional personal training staff that instructed her on the proper use and benefits of strength training. She would go to the gym on her own but now realizes that with proper supervision her workouts are much more focused. Dr. Dine now gets faster results in a shorter amount of time as her workouts are much more efficient and effective with the help of Vertex Fitness. She has learned how to strength train properly and with correct form. The positive results have kept her coming back weekly.
Dr. Dine now refers her patients to Vertex because of her experience. The process at Vertex has changed the way she counsels her patients on exercise encouraging them to include strength training into their lives.. The common excuse she hears is that it just takes up too much time. But at Vertex the sessions are doable and easy to incorporate into a busy schedule. You are in and out in less than an hour. “The best part is you will see a lot of results in a short amount of time.”
Dr. Dine’s advice to others about starting a training program…
“Because I had never done strength training before, I was nervous at first. But Dwayne and the other Vertex trainers have been awesome – they are all supportive and not intimidating. I would recommend Vertex Fitness to anyone interested in improving his or her health.”
Dr. Dine is also an Associate Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where she serves as the Chair of the Clinical Competency Committee and focuses on work-place assessment. Her research interests include developing novel assessment strategies, work intensity and understanding the residency factors that influence the formation of practice patterns during training.
