As a Registered Dietitian with a specialty in weight loss and weight management, strength training is what I recommend my clients, especially women over 40. Strength training allows you to build and maintain muscle. The more muscle you have, the greater your resting metabolic rate will be. This means that as you are sitting on the couch flipping through channels your body will still be burning a greater number of calories. If you are able to maintain the same muscle mass in your 50’s and 60’s as you did when you were younger, you will have little to no decline in metabolism as you age. I personally strength train at Vertex Fitness highly recommend them because of their safe, efficient and scientific approach. The friendly, personable, can do approach keeps me motivated through my session. I ‘ve been working out at Vertex since June of 2015 and have seen many improvements in my fitness ranging from getting stronger and weighing less.
